Alta Badia & the Dolomites, nature and adventure

Alta Badia and the Val Badia

Alta Badia is a real paradise for lovers of nature and adventure, a beautiful gem in the heart of the Dolomites and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009.

Alta Badia is part of the Val Badia, a valley in South Tyrol that includes these towns: Corvara, Colfosco, La Villa, San Cassiano and Badia. The Val Badia is the valley of the Gadera River and borders other valleys such as the Val Pusteria and Val Gardena, and the Belluno Dolomites.

The Val Badia is 16 kilometres long; and three languages (Italian, Ladin and German) are spoken here, although the local people typically speak German.

The massifs that border this valley to the west and separate it from the Luson valley are Monte Campiglio, Giogo di Colletto and Monte Muro. South of the Passo delle Erbe there's the Sass de Putia, which form part of the Puez-Odle group; while south of the Gardena pass and west of the Campolongo pass, stands the Sella Group.

Alta Badia offers many opportunities for enjoyable experiences both in summer and in winter, making it a very special setting for a mountain holiday. It's an ideal destination if you love hiking, cycling, climbing or skiing, or simply want to rest and relax in a magical setting.

Because Alta Badia gives guaranteed pleasure to all types of holidaymakers.

Sellaronda

The Sellaronda is a ski circuit and roadway around the Sella group of mountains, part of the Dolomites chain. The Sella massif lies between four valleys, the Val Fassa, Val Gardena, Val Badia and Val Livinallongo.

The Sellaronda ski circuit is 42 kilometres long and is known for its challenging climbs and thrilling descents, as well as the sheer beauty of the mountain scenery.

You can complete the Sellaronda circuit in winter without having to remove your skis, making use of the many ski lifts which help you navigate it both up and down, and in either direction. The total route including lifts and slopes covers a distance of 40 kilometres.

The Sellaronda Skimarathon, a night-time ski mountaineering competition, has been held on the slopes of the Sellaronda every winter since 1995.

In summer, the Sellaronda circuit is passable in both directions, clockwise and anti-clockwise, either on foot or by mountain bike. The circuit takes about 5-8 hours by bike and requires a good level of expertise. The road route which includes the 4 passes is about 55 kilometres long and is very popular with cyclists.

For fans of cycling, the Sellaronda offers the chance to take part in some very popular events during the summer, such as the Maratona dles Dolomites, the granfondo over the Dolomite passes, and Sellaronda Bike Day.
